Steven Oritt graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in film in 1996. Shortly after, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a production assistant and later a grip on various feature films and television series.
His first foray into directing was a film entitled "Beer-Run," an eight-minute, comedic short that was screened as part of the 1999 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival. Off the strength of his short, he was then selected to by the Creative Artist's Agency to direct their annual Trainee film, working with clients Danny Devito, Matt Damon, Renee Zellwegger, and Ben Affleck among others.
After rounding out his reel with a series of spec commercials conceived with a creative team from TBWA Chiat/Day, Los Angeles, Steven was signed to Clever Films in early 2000. Later that year, he was picked by Shoot Magazine as one of their five directors to watch in 2001. With Clever, he began directing commercials and music videos with an emphasis on the latter. He experienced immediate success in the music industry, with his first three clips airing in heavy rotation on both MTV2 and Fuse.
In late 2003 Steven left Clever and signed to RSA/Blackdog films for music video representation where he continues to be repped today. Most recently, he has progressed into longer format pieces including live concert DVD's and a 1/2 hour special for MTV entitled "Backstage Pass."
